Jess followed behind Marky looking at all the crew and then noticed a pale skinned adult approaching. “Marky, who is he?” she said as she pointed.
“That is Daddy Data, we need to stop and talk to him to get cabin assignments anyways.” Marky said thinking he knew where they would be assigned but since this wasn’t his ship any more he would need to ask.
“Umm, Daddy Data. Do you have a free moment?” Marky asked quickly.
“I can spare fifteen minutes, How can I assist you?” Data asked pleasantly.
“I wanted to let you meet one of the new clan parents. This is Jess, she has been assigned to the ship.” Marky said waiting for the response.
They watched as Data tilted his head as if he was talking to someone else. “So Jess, welcome aboard the Saratoga, in-case someone hasn’t told you. Also I have looked up some information. How do you feel about continuing your education for your new responsibilities?”
“I’m game, Especially if it means I can help more people. I want to be able to help at any needed capacity.” Jess said trying to sell herself like this was an interview.
“Jess, this isn’t an interview. I know your experiences and what you can do.” he said as he held his hands up in the stop motion. “Still you can take any course you want but remember there are people who can help if you need it.”
“Thank You” Jess said realizing he would make sure she knew there was help.
“So Data, looking at the rooms available where would a good room for them be?” Marky said getting Daddy Data back on track.
Data turned to look at Marky then tilted his head again. “So to answer your question. Looks like Randall just gave up his room and lab since he has moved out. We can get it set up in family configuration.”
“Wait what? Randall moved; when?” Marky asked surprised.
***SNAP***
“Hey Marky!” Randall said as him and Dustin appeared. “To answer your question. We just moved to a small planet in the Lantar system.”
“Are you sure your not going to need the room?” Marky asked for clarification.
“What part of moved don’t you get?” Randall asked looking straight at Marky.
Jess simply walked up to Randall and gave him a big motherly hug. And watched as he melted in her arms.
Mean while in a time line split neither here nor there
Isaac couldn’t believe it had been seven years since he had found his bumper cars playing son, Nor could he believe they had been extremely happy as a family. It didn’t surprise Isaac that Toby was gay, Nor did it surprise him later to find out that it was Matt’s dad who had flipped out and went on a killing spree to get to Matt. Isaac had eventually told Toby he was bi, even though he had a crush on Becca, since she had rescued him from his home of torture. Although neither had started dating again either from the memories of loss from previous relationships or not being able to find anyone they trusted.
“Toby it’s time to go by the Doctor for my results. Are you ready to go or do you want to stay home?” Isaac asked while looking at his watch.
“You know I’m going. What kind of son would I be if I didn’t make sure you were alright?” Toby asked a little upset. “Besides who would you leave me with if something was to happen?”
“You know I’m not going anywhere without a fight.” Isaac smiled knowing he would fight with his very last breath to stay with his son.
Toby ran over to his bookshelf and grabbed a story to read while they waited at the Doctors office. “Wonder what mischief Dustin is up to in this book?” Toby asked allowed as he watched Isaac roll his eyes.
“You know him, he’s always looking out for someone in need. Come on time to roll sport.” Isaac said thinking of how great it would be to know Dustin.
Doctor Milton’s Office
Doctor Milton was looking through multiple test results. As he let out a loud sigh. “Margret, send Isaac back and Toby if he wants to go as well. “
A few moments later Isaac walked in to the room as he closed the door Milton asked. “So where is Toby?”
“He decided to wait in the car.” Isaac stated with concern.
“Have a seat.” Milton said as he rubbed his gray hair. “So after reviewing your test results, I have some news for you.” Milton stated while holding up his hand to let Isaac know to wait before interrupting. “I wish we would have caught this sooner. You currently are at stage five of chronic kidney disease, but if that was the only problem then we would just go for a transplant and be done. But when we ran the test we found your body is a breading ground.”
Isaac opened his mouth but kept quite.
Milton started rubbing his own temples. “You have late stage cancer. I’m really surprised you aren’t experiencing pain from it.”
After a few moments Isaac asked “How long do I have?”
“Months or days, I can’t really say. I have never seen someone with it this bad and them not being doubled over in pain.” Milton said finding it hard to keep speaking as he realized he was now crying. “Do you want to tell Toby or do you want us to break it to him?”
“I guess I’ll break it to him today since we are driving up to Danteville to visit his families graves.” Isaac said thinking about who would be taking care of Toby when something happens. “This really makes me wish Becca was still around.”
“I know, but we can’t bring the dead back unfortunately.” Milton said as he began sniffling. “Just remember I still have emergency placement if you think he would want to stay with me.”
“I will talk to him.” Isaac said and began packing up.
Parking lot
Toby sat reading the latest misadventures of Dustin. When a ghostly figure appeared in the drivers seat. “I know I said I wouldn’t be back again.”
“Matt, Oh I’ve missed you! What’s going on why are you back and why are you crying?” Toby asked knowing something must have been really wrong or he was in need of a shrink.
“Remember one thing. Sometimes bad things happen,” Matt started but Toby finished.
“So good things can happen.” Toby said then it dawn on him this was important. “Matt what is about to happen?”
“You know I can’t tell what is going to happen, I’m not an Oracle. But, I need you to remember this one important saying.” Matt said as he began to fade.
Toby began to weep silently.
After approximately twenty minutes Isaac came out. He noticed Toby looked a little blotchy. “Hey sport you ready to go on our yearly trip?”
“Only if you are dad.” Toby said as he calmed back down. “How was the appointment?”
“We have some things to talk about once we are in Danteville.” Isaac said without any tone at all.
Toby looked back down to his book and started reading again. It was an intentional distraction.
Heavenly game of cards
Matt sat looking at his hand of cards as they played Cards against Morality. “So whats the plan?”
“Matt, how many times do I have to tell you. I don’t know what is going to happen or how. I just know it will.” Said a young lady. “My gift doesn’t show all the steps between.”
“Sorry Jessica, I’m just hoping Toby and Isaac can stay together somehow.” Matt said still looking at his hand of cards.
They both jumped as Dave spoke. “Actions are in motion. All we can do now is watch as the pieces fall where they may.”
“Do you always have to scare someone when you enter a room Dave?” Matt asked thinking his heart had just stopped then remember his heart hadn’t beat in years.
***CRACK***
“Good thing we can’t crap ourselves either!” Jessica said rather loudly as she looked at the new person in the room.
“Hey Dave, How much longer do I need to wait?” Dustin said as he watched his old friend dig out his pocket watch.
“Twenty or so minutes. All the variables aren’t in place yet.” Dave said then put the watch up.
“Why do we need to wait for the variables?” Matt said thinking of the pain Toby would experience.
“Because there are more than just those two peoples lives in the mix. You asked me to help and I said I would but there are others who need the help.” Dustin said hoping he didn’t have to unravel the fabric of this world to tell what was up.
Back in the Car
Isaac heard and felt his stomach rumble and then heard Toby’s stomach rumble and figured it was time to stop. “Hey buddy how about we stop and get a bite to eat?”
“That’s cool where do you want to go?” Toby asked quietly noticing they where about an hour outside of his old home town.
“Was thinking pizza, but I don’t think you would want to that show place.” Isaac said knowing Toby had hit fifteen and started liking more adult places.
“I don’t mind. One last time would be cool.” Toby said as he thought about Matt’s last birthday there and wondering if they had changed much.
They got out of the car and began walking up to the building. Toby noticed a man walking out and was confused. He looked like Jake but he couldn’t be Jake. Shrugging it off he continued into the building. Once inside they took a table close to the show stage. They watched as the animated bears and bunnies came to life. They watched as the dust bunnies flew from the creations as the gears came to life.
They were focused on the show until a shotgun blast pulled them away from the show. A man had walked in and began shooting staff members. “Go hide, Toby!” Isaac said as he went to check on the closest staff member.
As he checked for a pulse he leaned over and closed her eyes and said a prayer for her. Then he started to follow the man as he went into the kitchen.
There was a loud shout. “Dammit Tucker, you will be a dead fucker if I find you!” The man with the shotgun screamed.
It was at that moment a teenager the same age as Toby came running out from the bathroom almost running over Isaac. Reaching down Isaac told the boy at a whisper. “Go find Toby and hide he is near the show bots.”
After the boy ran off Isaac picked up a large knife. He followed the guy deeper into the kitchen. After a moment he realized he messed up. “Who are you?” The man asked as he held the shotgun to Isaac.
“Just one of the new staff they had me training with cutting peppers for the pizza’s.” Isaac said hoping this guy wouldn’t do anything.
“Guess this will be your first and last day all at once.” The guy said but was interrupted.
Isaac didn’t let this person scare him. As he spun and pushed the shotgun away from himself and stabbed the knife deep into this dudes gut. Once he felt it hit bone he pulled it out and stabbed again.
Show Room
Toby sat behind the show creatures and spotted a boy his age running toward him. He stood up and told him to come up on the stage. Once they where on the stage the boy turned and looked at the floor. Then he hit a button and the floor opened. “Come on we need to hide, and call the police.” Tucker said quietly.
Once they were down under the stage. Tucker locked the stage door and found the stage phone. Once he dialed out he knew he had messed up. “Why is it ringing over the speakers?” Toby asked baffled.
“Doesn’t matter we need to get the authorities here any way possible.” Tucker replied.
After four rings they heard someone respond on the speakers. “Hello, my name is Tucker Brown, My father is shooting up the staff and customers here. Please send help.” After a moment the line went dead.
“I don’t think they believed you.” Toby said then looked around the room and spotted it. Walking over to a box under the stage he opened it and pressed the emergency button. “Maybe they will respond to the fire alarm going off.”
Toby walked back up to the front of the underside of the stage and watched events playing out in the lobby. He watched Isaac walk out of the building with that man following him. The man looked to be bleeding profusely. Tucker placed his hand on Toby’s shoulder when he started to reach for the air conditioning cover. “Don’t he will hear you.”
The man walked up to the hostess stand and placed his shotgun across the stand to help hold it. That was when they heard sirens approaching. Once the sirens sounded like they were outside a few things happened. Isaac walked back in the door animatedly talking to someone. Suddenly a loud shot was heard. Followed by a loud scream from Toby and multiple shots hitting the man.
Heavenly Card Game Interruption
Dave looked down at his watch as the alarm went off. “Thirty second warning.”
Dustin waved to everyone in the room. “Gotta Run! See ya’ll Later!”
***CRACK***
“Somebody needs to teach him how to leave and enter different realms without causing so much noise.” Jessica said with a smile.
“Just be glad thunder and lightning don’t accompany his entrances and exits.” a soft low baritone voice said from no where.
“Why?” Matt asked out of reflex.
“Imagine the amount of cooking he would be doing.” Dave said stoically.
The Pizza Place
Toby kicked the grill cover off of the bottom of the stage as he ran toward the door. Tucker doing his best to keep up with him. He looked to his left and seen the man laying in a puddle of his own blood. Then as he looked to his right he saw Isaac. He was laying against the counter with two firefighters working feverishly to close a wound and stop the bleeding. Just behind the firefighter was two officers still standing guard revolvers drawn. They put the revolvers down when they seen Toby round the corner and look at Isaac. Tucker on the other hand was looking at the officers work. “Well dad, you finally got what you deserved.” Turning Tucker looked to the cops. “Please check his truck and see if my sister is still alive.”
The younger officer looked at Tucker and nodded that he had heard his request and started toward the parking lot. Moments later the other officers radio went off stating two ambulances were needed. Tucker started to leave the building to check on his sister when the officer stopped him. “Please stay here. I would hate for you to be in the way if she needs help.”
Moments later “Ambulance is here” said the firefighter to Isaac. “They sent the big ambulance this shot.”
Isaac just nodded showing he had heard them.
As the firefighters carried Isaac out, the police officer had Toby and Tucker follow him out to the ambulance. First the crew loaded a young girl onboard, followed by Isaac. Then they had the boys get in up front. Toby looked at the Driver, he smiled at him and then stated. “I know this thing looks like a tank but you still need to buckle up those seat belts.” After a few moments to get on the freeway. “I’m Dustin. Things may get a little weird shortly but just stay calm.”
In the back the two medics where working feverishly on both patients. “Dustin, we need to hurry up! One is really close!”
Dustin pulled the ambulance over in a parking lot. Looked around and then smiled. His hair turned purple while the ambulance started to fade.
Dustin smiled when he heard Toby whisper. “Clan earrings.”
Guest Room
Marky had just finished the tour with the new clan members as he sat down wishing he had something to read. It was then a book appeared on the table beside him. The books title was Short Stories. Flipping through the pages he stopped and noticed the author name. “Marky to Dustin”
***Poof***
“You called” Dustin asked with a wide smile.
Marky just smiled. “Anything you want to tell me?”
“Just your about to have another six folks.” Dustin said as he was about to run.
“Stop, what can you tell me.” Marky said hoping Dustin wasn’t going to disappear on him again.
“We will need a medical team in the shuttle bay in a few moments and then we will need somewhere to park an ambulance.” Dustin said as he was talking animatedly with his hands.
Marky simply tapped his badge. “Bradley, inbound medical emergency. The wondering helper is bringing us more via the shuttle bay.”
Not even a second later the room lights turned a sickly red color as the klaxons went off and an announcement stated. “Medical team one to shuttle bay incoming wounded.”
Dustin looked at Marky. “Aren’t you going to go?”
Before Marky could say anything. “Marky to shuttle bay one Medical Priority One.” Then he turned and ran for the door.
Shuttle Bay
Bradley stood waiting with his team and watched as Marky slid to a stop next to them. “Shay to Bradley”
“Bradley here, how can I help you Shay” Bradley asked unsure why his captain was calling at this moment.
“How and why are you having a Medical Priority One in orbit of earth?” Shay asked slightly on edge.
“Dustin.” Bradley stated half halfheartedly. “He did a rescue and didn’t bother to let us know there would be a possible medical emergency.”
“Carry on, just let me know what happens and how everyone is.” Shay said clearly relaxed a bit.
Suddenly an older style earth ambulance appeared in the shuttle bay. As they ran up to the ambulance two teenagers hopped out of the front seat and one mentions.”Toby, I don’t think we’re on earth anymore.”
“No Duh, do you see that?” Toby says pointing to the purple pinstriped shuttle. “That is an FT series shuttle.”
Bradley ran up to the ambulance and opened the back doors. The two medics were puzzled and shocked to see him, especially when he ran his tri-corder over the patients. “Lets get them to sick bay!”
Still confused the medics still followed his commands and began moving the patients out of the truck. They started to run across the deck when Bradley stopped them. “Bradley to transporter room, I need an emergency transport to critical surgery for four adults and one minor.”
There was no answer other than they were beamed out.
Toby looked around at the shuttle bay then to the person walking up to them. “Hello, I’m gonna take a non stabbing stab. You are Marky aren’t you?”
Marky stumbled to a stop. “Yes, I’m Marky. I would ask how you know my name but I have a good guess.” As he opened the book he was carrying to the story from a few moments ago.
Toby reached out to take the book and read a little of it. Then he reached for his back pocket for his book. As he pulled it out of his pocket. He was stunned as it began to fade out of existence. “What the heck?”
Tucker walked up in time to see Toby’s book disappear. “Almost looks like that book isn’t allowed to be here.”
“That would make sense.” Toby thought aloud. Then turned back to Marky who had been watching quietly. “Will they be alright?”
“According to the medical chat channel, they both are stable.” Marky smiled as he delivered the best of news.
Shay and Buddy’s room on the USS Potemkin
Andy waited till Shay finished checking in before asking. “So what is the earth side emergency?”
“Dustin, didn’t give them a heads up and someone put the ship on full alert.” Shay stated smiling. “I’ll say this he will keep them on their toes.”
***CRACK***
“I’m so glad you approve Uncle Shay!” Dustin said as he appeared long enough to sneak a quick hug and vanish.
***CRACK***
“Uncle Shay? I really want to hear about this development in detail.” Buddy asked as he turned to look at Shay.
“Andy are you alright” Shay asked looking at the terrified expression on his face.
“I wish he would practice entering a room silently.” Andy said as he checked his own pulse.
Vendra looked around the room as if listening to multiple voices. “I believe he is different than most species I have met.”
“Why do you ask?” Andy raised the question.
“I Still here faint echo’s of his thought around the room.” Vendra stated then reached out like he was grabbing someone. “Got you!”
Everyone turned to look at Vendra as Dustin appeared on his lap laughing. “I’ve never had someone capture my thought image as I am watching over a group.”
“English, you do speak it correct?” Doctor Mason said in a grumpy tone. “Thought image?”
Dustin started laughing to Mason’s disbelief. “Thought Image is a small split of my consciousness, I use it similar to a camera or listening device. It allows me to keep in touch with people I am worried about or keeping track of.”
“Would it be more like an invisible remote body?” Vendra asked aloud. “It seems more like that because I could hear your thoughts. But they sounded like multiple conversations because it was very random.”
“I exist in multiple places at the same time. But you could here me?” Dustin asked thinking he might need to go ask his poppa at some point.
“Yes, I wonder if it has something to do with our people and our abilities?” Vendra mumbled.
“It could be possible” Mason wondered aloud as he prepared to take a sip of his drink.
Club 99
Jess and her group sat listening to music and watching as people came and went from the club. “I can’t believe we are on a star ship?” Jess said numbly.
“Believe it. Aunt Jess.” Dax said looking at all of the crew of various ages walking around.
Suddenly Jess stood up and walked to the door as Bradley entered the room with two young teens.
“Hey Bradley, who do you have here?” Jess said as she knelt down. “Are you guys alright?”
“We are waiting for Isaac and Rebekah to get out of surgery.” One of the boys said whilst looking toward the floor. His heavy southern accent sounded desperate.
“It’ll be alright, why don’t y’all join us at the table over there.” Jess said pointing to the table. “I promise we don’t bite.”
On the other side of the room T’ven yelled, “The butler would definitely disagree with you there!”
Dax swiftly but gently tapped T’vens’ leg. “Would you stop, they look scared. Don’t scare them more.”
Tucker and Toby, Immediately cheered up seeing how they all acted. Tucker surprised everyone as he leaned into Jess and wrapped his arms around her. Jess turned to Bradley. “Why don’t y’all join us at the table. I’m sure we can make more room.”
As they approached the table, Harry went and grabbed more cookies and milk. “Is there anything else I can get you?” Harry asked noticing the pair of sad faces.
“I’m really hungry any chance at some real food?” Tucker said at just below a whisper.
“Do you have any requests or would you like me to surprise you?” Harry asked hoping he said surprise me.
“I would love to have a homemade dinner but a burger would be good.” Tucker said still focused on the table.
“Harry can I help you in the kitchen?” Jess said as she stood up.
“I can always use help.” Harry said noticing the smile on her face.
They both walked back to the kitchen. “Harry can you fix them some meatloaf and mashed potatoes and one of the McCoy shakes?” as Jess started looking through the freezer to see what deserts were in it.
Annika’s Office
Annika was busy looking at the reports for the day. Things in Plumville were nearly complete, Marky’s complex was nearing completion. After a moment or two thinking she paged two of her best shuttle pilots to her office. Once the door chimed she let them in. “I have an assignment for the two of you.”
Alex the younger one spoke up first. “What kind of assignment?”
“Well we still have the two extra FT’s in the shuttle bay and we need to get those delivered.” Annika said as she watched the older one bounce from excitement to nervous.
“I was going to suggest catching some of our new members and heading down to earth with the ships since they still need to be delivered. Besides this will give you a chance to meet them before the rest of us.” Annika said with a twinge of jealousy.
“Sure thing, but do you want to pick our crew since we are randomly picking passengers.” Alex said thinking this was odd.
“I believe y’all are capable of picking your own crew.” Annika smiled slightly hoping to not scare them. “Dismissed, and have fun.”
“Come on James, lets rock and roll!” Alex said apparently stoked about delivering the shuttles.
Mega Family Room
Just as Jess sat down and kicked her feet up the door chime went off. “Enter”
The doors opened to find two young officers walk in to the room. “Hello, we are looking for Jess and several other members of the new members.”
“Well I’m Jess, How can I be of service?” Jess asked thinking she was about to be freed of her comfy chair.
“Well we are getting a group of people together to go planet side to clan head quarters. Se we can deliver some shuttles.” Jimmy said noticing all of the odd items in the cabin.
“I’m sure you will want to take Dax and T’ven, they just got here. Also could you take Toby and Tucker, they are really wound up about some of there group who are in the medical bay.” Jess said not wanting to get up. “Dax was just certified today at flying shuttles.”
“Excellent, I know who is flying with me.” Alex said rather quickly.
“Jess, I know you probably want to sit and rest but this might be a good experience for you to experience.” Jimmy stated, “Besides, I’m sure you can find somewhere to relax once we arrive.”
