“Maybe I'll tell you once you're out of the hospital,” Liam told me. He didn't want to tell me why he moved here. Maybe it's something like my situation, and he just doesn't want to talk about it.
“Okay... Do you know how long I've been in the hospital?”
He had to think about it for a moment. “Well, I got here the day after, meaning you've been in here for three days I think. Well, two since on day one it was late afternoon when you got here.”
So I must have gone home with Paul. Did he hurt me so much that I passed out? Is what Liam 'knows' even the truth? Paul probably doesn't even feel bad about it. He's probably waiting for me to get home.
I sat there looking around the room getting sleepier and sleepier as I did. I eventually passed out and drifted into dreamland.
Quickly my mind went to Paul stripping me down. I tried to run away from him, but he grabbed me and pinned me down. He pushed his cock into me, dry, and just fucked me. I was about to cum when I awoke.
I woke up screaming. I jerked my arm so quickly that the IV in my arm was pulled out. Again I screamed, this time in pain. I rolled over onto my arm and pulled my legs to my chest.
My body shook as tears flowed down onto the bed below me. I heard someone come into the room, running, when they touched me, and I freaked. My mind told me it was Paul; he was going to get me again. So I kicked and made contact.
"GO AWAY!!” I grabbed the blanket from the hospital bed and wrapped it around myself.
There was a commotion throughout the room and through all that noise I heard Liam, “Nolan, just calm down.” I shot up and bolted towards him. He was at the foot of the bed, I grabbed hold and wouldn't let go. “Nolan, what's wrong?”
I just sobbed into him. Liam seemed to tell the nurse something. “What are they going to do? I kicked someone. I didn't mean to; I'm sorry.”
Liam squeezed me close to him, “It's okay. She's fine and understands. I just need your right hand okay? We're just going to wrap it up, so you stop bleeding. Trust me?” I nodded.
A male nurse wrapped cloth around my hand. Liam was right it did stop bleeding. It even looked kind of cool on my hand. Once that was done Liam went back to sitting on the couch reading something. I just sat there looking around, scared.
I had this feeling Paul would come out of nowhere. I don't know what he would do, but he would be here, acting nice, like nothing happened. I don't remember what even happened, but something did to get me here. It has to be something to do with Paul that's all I know for sure.
“Where's Paul?” I asked out of the blue.
He looked up from the book he was reading. “What, Paul?” I nodded, not looking at Liam. “He... You won't be bothered by him anymore, okay?”
“Why, what happened to him?” Why was a concerned about him? He's done horrible things to me that I should never forgive him for and yet here I am wondering what exactly happened to him.
Liam didn't know what to say. He just looked at me stunned. “You seriously don't know?” He continued to stare at me. Shocked I would ask this about my brother.
Before I could reply I heard a high pitch voice from the hallway, “LIAM!!! We're here!” A young boy, no older than 11 came skipping into the room. “Oh, Nolan's awake.”
Right behind him was my mom. I looked her in the eyes, for just a moment, and looked away. I saw pain, relief and love in her eyes. Like she was trying to tell me that she loved me, but she knows what I've been going through all this time with Paul.
“My name is Leif. I know your name, Nolan.” Leif smiled as big a smile his young face could manage. I just offered a little wave.
My mom came over and gave me a hug, “I will talk to you in just a moment. I just want to speak with Liam for a moment, okay?”
“Ya... okay.”
Leif piped up, “Don't worry I can keep him company!” He seemed excited to keep my company.
The entire time they were out in the hallway Leif told me all about Saskatoon. His school and friends, and what kind of clubs he was in. He went on to mention his new house was bigger than his old one and he has a bigger room than his brother. Leif did all of the talking during our 'conversation'.
Only mom came into the room from the hallway, “Leif, sweaty, go to the cafeteria with Liam. He has some money to pick up some stuff for lunch. You can help him bring it here.”
“Okay!” he bolted out of the room. You'd think the kid took my energy like a leach.
Once he was gone mom sat down beside me. “Liam says you don't remember what happened to get you into the hospital.” I shook my head. “Well first, I'm sorry you woke up to Liam and not me. With everything that I need to do for you, I needed to pick up some extra shifts at work.”
I nodded, “I remember getting a call from you, Connor telling me that he'll wake me up and then falling back to sleep. Then I woke up here in this room. I think I know what happened, but I don't know for sure...”
“What do you think happened?”
I turned away from here. Who wants to tell their mom that their older brother and his friends have been rapping them for years? That you think, they took it too far and hurt my head to the point of falling unconscious. Mom would never believe me, why would she? We had the 'perfect' brother relationship in her eyes.
“Nothing...” was my response.
“Your brother and Harrison raping you is not nothing.” She knows! I could feel my breathing start getting heavy. She pulled me in close; my body felt like an earthquake. “It's okay; you're fine now, Paul will never see you again. He was taken into police custody, along with Harrison. Your brother confessed while Harrison claims innocence.
“Paul has been sent to a juvenile detention center and will be transferred to a proper prison when he becomes of age. The confession let him off with a lesser charge, but he will be in jail for a long time.”
“I'm sorry I am weak. It wouldn't have happened if...”
She cut me off. “Nolan, none of this is your fault. Don't blame yourself; you cannot control the actions of your brother. What he did was horrible and unforgivable. He will never come near you again; I promise.”
I don't believe her, but maybe in time I will. From all the TV shows and movies saying 'you'll never see them again, and being proved wrong, it's hard to take in this early.
There is something I need to ask though, “Mom, what exactly happened for me to end up in the hospital?”
Her eyes looked away. She looked like she was about to cry, “I had arrived home from work early, and found your brother and Harrison... Anyways, when you saw me you freaked out so badly you had a seizure. You ended up falling off your bed and hitting the back of your head on the end table and your forehead on the bed frame.
“I called 911 asking for an ambulance as soon as possible. You arrived here, and the Doctors and Nurses inspected and bandaged up. The Doctor has come by regularly to see how you've been doing. He should be here soon.”
Just as mom finished Liam and Leif came back into the room, with food. I got to see how Liam and Leif treat each other as brothers. Liam would look annoyed with him every once in a while. Leif would be a bit of a brat though.
Liam played and kidded with Leif just like how I wish mine and Paul relationship could have been. Leif would have a stupid question, but Liam wouldn't knock him down he would explain it. I was so jealous of Leif.
Leif seemed unsure of me, “My name is Nolan...”
“I know. You've been asleep every time I've been here until now.”
“How many times have you been to see me?”
“Every day since we got here.” He's been here every day, why? He barely knows me, what could make him do this? “Liam insisted on staying at the hospital until you woke up. The nurses almost didn't let him.”
I looked over at Liam, who seemed a little flustered. “I didn't want you waking up not knowing where you were or why. Plus your mom had to go to work, and the only thing I have to do is unpack my room, which I can do anytime.”
“Thanks, Liam.” He just smiled and rubbed the back of his head.
Leif spoke up again, “Liam is awesome! One time when this kid was mean to me Liam told him to stop, and he did!”
“Sounds like a nice older brother.” I hurt me inside to say that. I could see it hurt mom when I said it too. She looked away from us instantly. “Why don't you tell me about you?”
Boy could that kid tell me about himself! I think he made one sentence into a few paragraphs a few times. He would tell me stories about him and his friends or Liam. He would just talk and talk and talk, filling the room with laughter as he did.
The visit from my mom and Leif was cut short. A nurse came in telling us visiting hours were over, and they needed to go home. Mom gave a short good-bye and kissed my forehead. Leif waved and skipped along beside her.
Liam got the couch turned into a bed for him to sleep on. “Come over here, I got my laptop with some movies on it. It's better than nothing.”
I went over, and he placed the laptop in the middle of the bed. “Do you... Could I snuggle up to you?” I felt awkward asking him that. I mean I've known him for only a few hours. I might have cried into him once or twice, but he's still a stranger to me.
He just gave me a smile and moved the laptop, “Of course.”
I moved around a bit, but I found the comfiest position on him. He turned on the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. We were silent with just a couple of giggles here and there.
When my eyes started to flutter, I felt Liam pull me over to him more. Soon enough my eyes had closed and stayed there. That didn't stop my dreams from becoming active though.
When my eyes closed, they opened up in dreamland.. literally. They opened to what appeared to be the same hospital room. It was different though... It felt different.
The room began to shake, but Liam stayed asleep. The room continued to quake, more and more violently the longer it went on. I tried to wake Liam up, to no success. My body began to shake in fear.
All around me I heard Paul's voice, “I WILL FIND YOU... YOU’RE NOT SAFE...” He kept saying it over and over. I would try and hide, but nothing would work. “I WILL FIND YOU... YOU'RE NOT SAFE...”
“STOP IT!!” I screamed.
“No...” A voice in the distance spoke. It wasn't Pauls... “Nol...” There it was again, the Voice in the background. “NOLAN!”
I sprang awake. I looked around the room and finally to Liam, who wore a look of concern. It was then I realized my arms were shaking, and I remember my dream.
Liam pulled me close as I continued to shake. “It was just a dream Nolan; you're safe here.” I wasn't crying, just shaking. I settled down eventually to fall back to sleep. This time I had no dreams... Just woke up next to the still sleeping Liam, who had an iron grip on me.
“Thanks Liam,” I whispered as I snuggled back into him.
